Why your Splitit payment might not be going through

Updated this week

Running into issues when trying to use Splitit at checkout? No worries — here are a few common reasons your payment might not be going through and how to fix it:

1. You’re using a debit card

Splitit only works with credit cards, not debit cards or prepaid cards. You’ll need to switch to a valid credit card to use this payment option.

2. Your card doesn’t have enough available credit

Even though you’re paying in installments, Splitit places a temporary hold for the full purchase amount on your card to secure the plan. If your credit limit is too low to cover the full cost, the transaction won’t go through.

💡Tip: You can try using a different credit card with a higher available balance!

3. Split-it doesn’t support your country

Split-it doesn’t support cardholders in every country.

Here are the countries supported by split-it:

Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cayman Islands, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guernsey*, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man*, Israel*, Italy, Jersey*, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States

4. The billing info doesn’t match

If your billing address or card details don’t exactly match what your credit card provider has on file, the payment might fail for security reasons. Double-check everything before trying again.

5. Your bank declined the authorization

Sometimes banks block unfamiliar or large transactions. You can try:

  • Re-attempting the purchase

  • Contacting your bank to approve the charge

  • Trying a different credit card
